Main text: Luke 9:23 – And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
2 Timothy 2:12 – If we endure, we shall also reign with him: if we shall deny him, he also will deny us.
Many children of God in this generation don’t know that discipleship come at a cost. They are ignorant of the truth that our Lord Jesus Christ has a yoke that must be shared with Him. Matthew 11:29 says,’ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls’. Our willingness to share this yoke with Him qualifies us as His disciples.
To be a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ, you should have the knowledge of the truth, accept Him and follow Him – The truth is Jesus Christ. The bible tells us that Jesus is the truth in John 14: 6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. He further declared that He is the word of God (John 17:17). By implication, whoever rejects the word of God rejects Jesus Christ and whoever rejects Jesus Christ, rejects the truth and therefore, is not a disciple. The true disciples of Jesus Christ deny themselves of worldly pleasure and follow the kingdom pattern of fulfilling the will of the father of soul winning.
The scripture tells us that Jesus gave His disciple the great commission or assignment before He physically left the planet earth in Acts 1:8 – ‘But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth’. Whoever is a disciple is expected of God to fulfil this mandate of soul winning for the kingdom of God.
