CHRISTIAN FAMILY
Main text: Genesis 18:19 – ‘For I know him, that he will command his children and household after and they shall keep the ways of the Lord to do justice and judgment that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which He had spoken to him’
Proverb 14:1 – ‘Every wise woman buildeth her house but a foolish woman plucketh it down with her hand’
A Christian family is that family that obeys, fears and reverences God. It is a home where God is the head and His spirit (Holy Spirit) dwells. A Christian family loves God and worships Him in truth and in spirit; love and unity abounds in that family.
A father has a role as the head of the home and he should make sure that there are peace and harmony fellowships together as a family. He should also shower his wife, children, relatives and other members with love and care. He should make sure that he takes his family to the house of worship as Elkanah did (1 Samuel 1:21). He also has the responsibilities of providing the basic needs of the family like food, shelter and clothing. He should be a faithful husband to his wife and be a true companion/ encouragement to her like Elkanah (1 Samuel 1:8).
The mother’s role in a Christian family is an assistance role to the father. She is helpmeet to the husband (Genesis 2:18). She is fashioned to be a companion to her husband and together, they form a pair to accomplishing God’s assignment for their lives.
The children are a gift from God to the family. Godly children help do chores in the home. They respect, honour and obey their parents (Ephesians 6:1-2). They are expected to value the norms, values and regulations of the family.
WHEN JESUS IS IN A FAMILY, HAPPINESS IS GUARANTEED
