JEALOUSY DRIVES TO DESTRUCTION

Main Text: Proverbs 14:30 – A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones

Proverbs 27:4 – Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

The man who keeps busy helping the man below him won’t have time to be jealous of the man above him. Jealously leads you to bite yourself. It targets others but ends up consuming you. God blessed King Saul and lifted him from obscurity to the highest position in Israel. But when David slew Goliath and won the admiration of the people, Saul acted insecure and threatened.

Rather than rejoicing that God had sent him help, he grew resentful and began to plot to kill David. Jealousy destroys relationships and poisons your attitude towards comparing yourself with others. It robs you of your joy and contentment. You become ungrateful and self-centered. It makes you assume that God’s resources are not sufficient to bless you. It blinds you to your own blessings which others don’t have.

Saul’s jealousy cost him his throne, family and respect in the eyes of the people and ultimately his life. When the spirit of jealousy starts cropping up from within you and you start feeling resentful of someone else’s blessing, ask the Holy Spirit to help you count your blessings. God’s blessings over our lives are so numerous to count.

Be contented with whatever you have while trusting God to provide those you don’t have.

CONTENTMENT IS THE ANTIDOTE TO JEALOUSY. CULTIVATE IT.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be satisfied with your blessings in my life, in Jesus name. Amen
