OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH 1

Main text: Psalm 46:1- God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 91:2 – I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

God is our refuge, our safe place, our retreat, the place we go when we are afraid, He is also our strength. This is the same word that Jesus uses in Acts 1:8, When he promises to give us “power” with the coming of the Holy spirit who now lives within us. In Him, there is no storm that has the capacity to destroy you. God is the surest refuge any one can think of, King David discovered this secret early and God preserved him despite the many battles he fought from his youthful age.

In our main text, God assured us that He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble which means that there will be difficult time, but God promises to be our refuge. When our world is shaken and it feels like nothing is happening for us, God has not failed us. He has promised to be with us in the middle of tragedy. We sometimes think that when we find ourselves in difficult circumstances that God has abandoned us, but this is not the case.

Israel was always in trouble with her neighbors, but while other nations boasted of their cities perched high on inaccessible cliffs secured with iron gates and protected by fierce warriors, Israel was in a safer position than all of them. God was her refuge and strength. Therefore, the people of Israel could live a confident manner, regardless of the situation around them, because they know God is in their midst.

THE BATTLES OF KING DAVID COULD NOT KILL HIM BECAUSE GOD WAS HIS REFUGE

PRAYER: I decree that the battles in my life will now kill me or stop me in Jesus’ name
