NO HUNGER; NO GROWTH 2

Main text: 1 Peter 2:2 – “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

Psalm 42:1-2-As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

In our second reading, the psalmist said “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for you O Lord”, this indicates a depth of hunger and deep love is captured in this verse. It is a soul in desperation for Holiness that pants after God. When you don’t hunger for Christ, you find out that you can never grow spiritually but keep remaining a baby Christian and give room for the enemy, the devil to use you anyhow he wants. You find out that you are always in the same level every day by day.

As Christians, we ought to learn to crave the undiluted word of God, as a newborn craves milk. By drinking this milk that is taking in God’s word, drawing close to Christ, and praying continuously, we will continue to grow up in our salvation. Peter has already made it clear that God has secured our salvation (1Peter 1:3-5), and we are being saved (1peter 1:9) and that we will receive salvation fully when Christ is revealed. For now, taking the “milk” of God’s word is the intended path of spiritual growth.

There is no knowledge of God that we will receive that will fill us to the brim that we will not desire more of Him. The more we know Him is the more we hunger to be lost in Him.

OUR HUNGER FOR GOD’S WORD IS REFLECTED IN OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH.

Prayer: Father Lord, grant me the grace to grown spiritually and never to backslide.
