BE IMITATORS OF GOD

Main text-Ephesians 5:1-2:  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

1corinthians 4:16: Therefore I urge you to imitate me.

In our main text, Paul calls on the children of God to be imitators of Christ. “Be followers of God.” The word “followers” means to “mimic”, to be an imitator that is to copy specific characteristics of another person. We must mimic God and seeking to be just like him.

You can’t imitate a person if you don’t know anything about them, so we must learn all we can about the Lord from His word. We must put into practice everything we read from His word, His lifestyle and all that He does and must avoid the things He avoids. We are to be like God in every sense.

Being an imitator of God, we must imitate His ‘Love’. After all, the Bible tells us that God is Love. God gives us everything we need to be like Him. We must partake in His divine nature. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says ” he who is in Christ is a new creation, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.” Therefore, God’s command to be like Him is recognition of who we are as His children, because we are His children, God gave us His Spirit to empower and change us to His image. We simply cannot imitate God through our own power.

AS WE SPEND TIME WITH GOD, HE CHANGES US INTO HIS IMAGE.

Prayer: God grant me the grace that I will learn and live to become an imitator of Jesus Christ.
