MY KINSMAN REDEEMER
MAIN TEXT – Jeremiah 50:33-34
Thus says the Lord of hosts, “The sons of Israel are oppressed, And the sons of Judah as well, And all who took them captive have held them fast, They have refused to let them go. “Their Redeemer is strong, the Lord of hosts is His name; He will vigorously plead their case So that He may bring rest to the earth, But turmoil to the inhabitants of Babylon.
Leviticus 25:25 – “If your brother becomes poor and sells part of his property, then his nearest redeemer shall come and redeem what his brother has sold.
Kinsman refers to blood relative. Based on Israel’s tribal nature, certain obligations were laid on the kinsmen. As Christians, we are one another’s kinsman. You have obligations to render to your Christian brethren. The kinsman was also the blood avenger. A wrong done to a single member of the family was considered a crime against the entire tribe or clan.
Kinsmen seek for vengeance in a case of murder, the kinsman was responsible for redeeming the estate which his nearest relative may have sold because of poverty. It was also the responsibility of the kinsmen to ransom a fellow kinsman who had sold himself. As Christians, we stand to be kinsmen to our fellow brethren with similar obligations. We also have a kinsman redeemer, Jesus Christ. He avenges our cause and makes sure we are not destroyed. What a blessing and privilege to have Master Jesus, as our kinsman redeemer today.
Christ stands for us in every way and speaks for us even when we fail, He stands in His mercy for our deliverance. Jesus Christ has a covenant to keep the righteous. Beloved, we can demonstrate one of the duties of the kinsman and redeem that prodigal son, youth, woman, or man. Do not condemn them yet because we’re redeemed to redeem others.
JESUS CHRIST IS OUR ADVOCATE AND REDEEMER
PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, speak for me and redeem me from the traps of the evil people. Let their expectations towards me be cancelled. Amen
