STOLEN WATER IS SWEET 1

Main text: Proverbs 9:17 – “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant”.

Proverbs 5:3-4 – “For the lips of an immoral woman drips honey and her mouth is smooth than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood sharp as a two edged sword”

Today’s topic focuses on an issue that is apt in our contemporary society -Adultery and fornication. The sentence statement “stolen water is sweet” is an ironical statement contrary to what might be expected. Sexual relationship is meant for husband and wives, any act of sex outside marriage bonds is stolen and unlawful hence sin against God and humanity.

Conjugal pleasure is a gift from God and should not be stolen (Proverbs 5:17) “Let them be only thine own, and not strangers with thee”.
Adultery and fornication are two agents of destruction to life, ministry, destiny and happiness in family and relationship. Sexual immorality may seem sweet at the particular time that it is being committed but the consequences are far- reaching hence the irony, “stolen water is sweet”. Sexual sin starts from the heart, do not allow your heart to wander into sexual fantasies.

Sexual sin may be as cheap as a loaf of bread but the consequences afterwards are far-reaching. Some of the consequences may not be immediately but they are inescapable. Stop and ponder on (Proverbs 6:27); “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?” Discern the wisdom in God’s word.

The instructions of God will keep you from falling into sin.
Consider practical ways to avoid traps set by wayward girls and boys and strange women/men we encounter daily. Pay attention to God’s instructions on immoral sin. Stay afar off from the doors and ways of immoral men and women. Stolen water in the real sense is not sweet; rather it has sorrows, life-long and painful regrets. Proverbs 6:33; “A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.”
